Why do I need to make a slide and talk about myself tomorrow (I hate talking about myself lol).
TechTogether has the cutest stickers!
Watched the ship showcase today!
Had zoom school again today, and I really love my C++ class so far!
I broke my github streak yesterday — 152 days isn't too bad.
One very last update about GWC SIP! I'm not great at using twitter (ironic much?), so I actually just found out about this a couple minutes ago! Feels amazing to not only be featured, but also have my project featured on Twitter Women Eng.
#hack-night is dead
Just one last thing before summer ends. I have my basic HTML up, no formatting yet, but it's going to be something I'll continue to work on (give me suggestions and frameworks to use pls!). Until further notice, I'll be hosting it here (failure resume currently here). Last #scrapbook post before I go back to school! Thanks for making my summer amazing, you guys, I love you all ❤️ .
I signed up definitely not because of how pretty the gradient of the ticket was, or how it moved when you hovered over it, but because I want to learn more about next.js
Kayley's website update, I realized that I mainly want three pages on my website: homepage, project, and failure resume. I spent yesterday night compiling my "failures" on a google document. It felt really nice looking back at my failures, and seeing more and more over the past couple of years, because I actually started stepping out of my comfort zone more and more. Well, here's a screenshot, enjoy!
Okay, this one is a memory from a loongggg time ago — CodeDay Bay Area Winter 2019. My first hackathon ever, and I made my first website, which Zach helped me on (look at the horrid jojo siwa on the screen). Also, my first time hearing about Hack Club. After the workshop, Zach and I stayed behind talked for a good 20 minutes about coding and he told me his entire story (Yo was used to warn other people about bombings) and showed me his apps. My best hackathon memory, by far.
One of my goals this summer was to have a personal website up and running. I'm severely behind on that, but I'll be quite proud if I have a homepage and my failure resume up by Tuesday afternoon. I'm starting to miss my summer already, but I'm really looking forward to school.
LOOK AT THIS, AGAIN! I didn't do much today — I finished watching Lucifer, did some calculus and tried to continue to learn C++.
On the post ama chill zoom call with Nicky Case! I had a great time on the AMA today, and I learned so much about journalism, games, and Aristotle's beliefs.
I spent a good 4 hours working on the MSJ CSF website today, per my duties as webmaster. My HTML knowledge came in pretty handy, as I added in a lot of anchor links to different parts of the website, updated the pages, added more resources, and included so many more descriptions and text. I will continue to work on this tomorrow.
I just got off of my last meeting with my WAVE advisor this cycle. We actually had a really amazing talk today (tl;dr debugging is painful, but you'll learn a lot), and we even went through my projects on GitHub as well. I've been able to learn so much from him over the past couple of months — I'm seriously going to miss our hour-long conversations. Also, say hello to Cooper, Looker's (unofficial) mascot and the bestest dog!
Last day of band camp! Ended strong, alas my computer died with a couple of minutes to spare. Anyways, look! It’s my small flute!
The aftermath... Anyways, thank you for having me! It was so much fun @elisemoe
I went to school to pick up some books, had band camp day 6, and continued learning C++. Here's a screenshot of my notes from a two days ago.
I was woken up at 5 by really loud thunder, and I haven’t been able to sleep since, so I’m just enjoying the sunrise and the lightning. Just a hunch, but I think I’m gonna have a great day today :). Enjoy my photos of lightning and the sunrise!
@yuto@elizabethq remember when we were talking about stickers? Here are mine. 🙃
Band camp day 5 went great! The freshmen are improving a lot on their marching. Also please enjoy photos of my nice freshly polished flute.
Band camp day 4 complete! Here is a nicely polished flute headjoint and my C++ book!
I WROTE HELLOWORLD!!!! IN C++!!!! I'M VERY VERY HAPPY :))
My flute’s learning C++ with me! I’m so proud 🥺. Band camp day 3 was quite fun — nothing beats teaching the freshmen how to march and learning a new programming language from a 30 year old book at the same time.
Band camp day 2 and flutes!
first day of band camp ✅
🎹I played piano today (probably the first time I’ve touched it in close to a year). Not bad, I guess, I played City of Stars and another piece 😉 . It was just really really fun playing piano again.Practicing for band camp! My flute isn’t as shiny anymore but yay I have some runs down
🔥not too bad, for someone who joined summer of making two weeks in.
On the AMA with Alex Stamos! I had such a great time!
new profile pic! #picrews
Alright, so in order to not lose my streak, I’m just going to do a random post about my happy place: the Singapore Botanic Gardens. Well here are a couple of reasons why; 1. The admission is free, 2. The koi are huge, and there are fish in every single water feature, 3. I have so many memories tied to that place (including but not limited to climbing the old tree with my cousins, getting stuck and crying on the same said tree a couple years back, going out to a fish food store and buying koi food to feed the fish cause the food there was too expensive, and screaming at monitor lizards). Funny story, when I was younger, I was caught trying to sneak out of the house to walk here with my relative’s dog lmao. Anyways, this is the best place in the world, visit it if you ever go to Singapore! Included is a low quality photo of me with said dog at the botanic gardens 3ish years ago, one of the famous tree and some other pics from google!
SUPER late, but I finished my game theory course! I followed a lot of people on github today too!
Today was quite interesting, I got to see a lot of thoughtful discussions. Anyways, here’s the highlight of my day! I’m finally in the HackClub github org!! :))
I've been super unproductive today, so here's this throwback...
I don’t have anything really special to share today, so here’s this short video! It was my small ardunio project from my mentorship last year. Essentially, the arduino has a microphone and after the sound reaches a certain level the lights are going to blink. A really simple project, but not too bad for a first one. Today was a really busy day, I woke up at 6:30 and I was on 6 different zoom/webex meetings. I don't really have anything memorable to share, so here's a photo of my friend's dog.
game theory!
I had a pretty unproductive day today, I literally just did game theory the entire day. Funny story, our entire team's repo with our submission to the hackathon literally disappeared into thin air for a couple of hours and its back now but the github pages doesn't work... yet...
Anyways, I send my dad coding memes sometimes — here's my favorite meme I've ever sent to him.
Back on my econ grind! Didn't really do much again today. I feel like I kinda lost my motivation and momentum lmao. My extra long summer break is coming to and end, and part of me doesn't want it to end — there's still so many things I need to complete.
After a weeklong break, I'm back to my unhealthy obsession with economics😬. Didn't really do much today. I followed a lot of people on github. I'll probably be going through my github and adding tags/editing descriptions for my repos, and maybe editing some old readme's.
@swarnya246 , ana, natalie, and I submitted our project to our hackathon! Our project literally did a total 180 from where we started, but we still got it done! I'm so proud of our team. Here's some gifs from our project. Also, I broke my own personal record for the most contributions on GitHub in one day! (41 contributions 😳)
Another update to the GitHub readme, but this time with (too many?) icons! I just need to find a black hackclub one now...
Woohoo! Another great HackClub AMA, this time with Tommy DeVoss. I got to see not one, not two, BUT THREE DOGS!
🚀Here's how our hackathon website is going right now. I might need to start learning PHP and MySQLi soon though... 😬
it's kayley learns react time! I started on the react tic tac toe tutorial yesterday night, and I'm starting to get the hang of it, although I'm still confused with all of the brackets and where all the semicolons go. Side note: react has amazing documentation. Anyways, I told my BBG WAVE advisor that I was learning react and he commented all over my code with suggestions and remarks on how to improve the code. I have the best mentor ever. Here's a screenshot of his code and a demo of my program.
I updated my github profile with the readme! I sure hope the code works 🤷♀️
I know a lot of people have this badge, but it feels special knowing that in 1000 years, if civilization gets wiped out, at least my descendants will be able to recreate my arduino project. 🥺 Also, as @blucashbaugh mentioned, my code is physically buried under a bunch of permafrost at the North Pole. Pretty fucking cool, imo.
Today was the last day of SIP, and I've made so many memories and met so many amazing people over the past two weeks. Me and Kiana made a website for our final project (kayleyseow.github.io/SHEQUALITY), and presented it to Twitter partners today (I even had an amazing convo with Ms. Brand about bro culture in the workplace). Alas, virtual SIP isn't the same thing as a real one at Twitter, but I wouldn't give it up for the world.
spent two hours figuring out why the parallax on my website wasn't working today.
Yay! A bit more game theory!
I've been super nervous the entire day, but today was pretty great! I started reading the JDBC documentation (ew), attended a mentorship panel with Twitter, and I started my Game Theory course! I've always wanted to go in depth on this topic, and I'm starting to see how this economic theory relates to other fields like computer science and even politics as well.
I found these c/c++ books lying around my house—turns out they’re 30+ years old! Super excited to start reading these. :c:
woohoo I finally finished my SQL course! I’ll be combining java and SQL in a project now, let's see how that turns out.
I made this to understand SQL inner joins 🙂
SQL joins are so annoying ahhhh
Dylan in the middle of this rap lol... anyways, +1 to the tabs team
I was just on a call with Jack Dorsey! He's literally the chillest guy I've ever met. I got to ask him about his biggest regret, and I learned so much! I'm literally on cloud 9 right now.
